The Peace Corps is a service opportunity for motivated changemakers to immerse themselves in a community abroad, working side by side with local leaders to tackle the most pressing challenges of our generation.

[Career/Networking] University Neurocognitive Imaging - Joseph Wu MD and Neetika Wu MD

University Neurocognitive Imaging is a forensic neuroimaging analysis for capital mitigation and for civil injury cases using statistical analysis of brain PET scan, brain MRI DTI scans, and brain quantitative volumetrics and correlating image abnormalities with neuropsychological testing and clinical symptoms and behaviors.

[Networking] Rock to Recovery - Constance Scharff, PhD

Rock to Recovery helps people heal and transform their lives through the powerful experience of writing, playing, and performing music as a group. We work with more than 100 treatment facilities in 4 states, service 30,000 people each year.

Dr. Scharff is happy to talk with people about nontraditional careers in mental health, complementary therapies, addiction, and trauma treatment or music.

[Networking] Academy of Professional Excellence - Charlie Rodnuson

The Academy of Professional Excellence's programs serves the health and human service agencies and community-based social service agencies throughout California and the nation with a primary focus on Southern California. In particular, Child Welfare Development Services (CWDS) is a division of the Academy and provides workforce development to over 7,000 public child welfare staff in the region. CWDS takes pride in the delivery of comprehensive, culturally appropriate, and competency-based workforce development services. These services include expert technical assistance, implementation planning and support, leadership and organization development, and a variety of modalities to support practice development, including coaching, distance learning, simulations, in-person training, and mobile applications.

Charlie is happy to share about his career path and the opportunities he took during and after UCI. His journey began with the field of Behavioral Health, then led to Youth and Adolescent Counseling, then led to Academic/Career Advising, and now in the field of Coaching/Mental Health as well as Marriage and Family Therapy.

[Career] City Year - Kiana Drake

City Year helps students and schools succeed, while preparing the next generation of civically engaged leaders who can work across lines of difference. Diverse teams of City Year AmeriCorps members provide support to students, classrooms and the whole school. Schools that partner with City Year are up to two to three times more likely to improve in English and math assessments, and the more time students spend with AmeriCorps members, the more they improve on social, emotional and academic skills— skills that help students thrive in school and contribute to their community. A proud member of the AmeriCorps national service network, City Year is supported by AmeriCorps, local school districts and private philanthropy. City Year partners with public schools in 29 communities across the U.S.

[Career/Networking] Karate For All (KFA) - Dima Estwani 

KFA is an occupational therapy-based martial arts program that works with children with special needs. We have an incredible and valuable team of volunteers here that assist in teaching the kids. All volunteers are trained in karate and learn to develop their leadership and patient handling skills. Volunteers/Interns learn invaluable skills that will greatly prepare them for the professional career field, medical or non-medical. Here is a fantastic volunteer opportunity to work hands-on in the medical field with special needs children through a program called Karate For All (KFA). The children at this pediatric therapy medical clinic are diagnosed with neurological and behavioral conditions such as Autism, Down Syndrome and much more. At KFA you have the opportunity to teach karate to children ranging from 3.5 to 22 years old. It's an energetic and engaging experience for you as a volunteer! Prior martial experience is welcome but not necessary since they provide training on everything you need to know.
